Sister-in-Campus 5

U
nlike other Mondays on this particular one there were no assignments to be submitted. Most students were busy exchanging jokes about the events of the past weekend. Some happily arguing bout Man-U, Arsenal, Red Devils among other teams that somehow had affected their Sportpesa bets. Mr. Mutungi as usual was not late for his communication skills class. It was one lively that those who missed regretted the entire week. He knew how to weave recent political stories into his explanations such that his class was never boring at all. One time he talked of how some students were demonstrating demanding for dialogue. "That was during Moi's era and one illiterate minister wondered why the government was refusing to give them dialogue yet it was busy importing very expensive vehicles for the state house. He thought dialogue was not that expensive and could be imported from China!" Mr. Mutungi said comically as everyone laughed uncontrollably. According to him Kenyan politics was enough to be comedy and one did not need to be glued on tv watching hopeless comedies like Churchill Show or Pasua show. To him these were just money oriented shows that struggled to make you laugh.

No one noticed Joyce was missing except for Godfrey. Not even those who depended on her for assignments cared to know where she was or why she was absent. Since Mr. Mutungi hardly gave any class work or assignments he never ever knew who was in or not. Neither did that bother him in any manner. This was a sad reality for Godfrey who getting a liking for this wonderful lady whom he sat next to in the first lecturer. The longest time they spent together was in the CU during choir practice as well as praise and worship. Godfrey was already an usher while Joyce was a Praise and Worship leader. Godfrey wondered why no one bothered to acknowledge that Joyce was not in class yet they always rushed to her for Quantitative Techniques assignments most of them probability and calculus.
"Hey Stacia do you happen to know Joyce's room?" He managed to ask Stacia who was right ahead of him as they left the class.

"Do they sell greetings these days sweetheart?" Stacia answered without bother to look behind. Godfrey walked faster to be on the same pace with her because walking behind her was tempting. She swang her hips seductively like she was a movie character made to move in a slow motion by video effects. Godfrey always felt ashamed whenever she did that before me. She was used to trying to catch her attention ever since they first met at the registration queue. She was ahead of him and out of boredom she began complaining like any lady would do. Godfrey took to encouraging her "Don't worry no situation is permanent". When they met in class in one of the subsequent lessons Stacia was poking him. "Hey you I missed you. Please remind me your name"
"Godfrey, and you?"
"Stacia, but call me sweetheart instead"
"Why that name meant for a couple"
"But we are a couple don't you see!" She positioned her smartphone ahead and moved closer to him. Godfrey not knowing what she was upto stared into the smartphone only for her to take a selfie with him.
"Please Stacia delete it" He pleaded.

"If you want to delete it you will have to call me sweetie first!"
Godfrey had to give up and just try to focus in what the lecturer was talking on. He felt bad that all that had happened under the watch of the aged lecturer that stood in front of the class. Beside him and at the back other students were busy doing different things like cracking jokes, picking calls, chatting, spanking one another as if there was no lecturer in class.
"So what does this Joyce have that I don't have?" She turned around in full 360 ° expressing her point. Just then a big guy came from behind them and spanked her on her butt. Contrary to Godfrey's expectations she seemed to have enjoyed. She turned and hugged him as Godfrey looked away. "Boy you don't waste something like this staring at it like a cat playing with a mouse it has caught but isn't feeling hungry." The big guy said and left without waiting for his feedback. Stacia turned only to find Godfrey disappeared. He had been pissed off and left to the right. He had disappeared into the walking groups.

Joyce woke up from long sleep, turned and tossed slowly in her hospital bed. Her eyes opened slowly and carefully because it is long since they saw light. For a moment she was lost not knowing where she was. She lifted her hands to help herself up but failed terribly. It is then that she realised she was in a hospital bed. She could not comprehend what happened to her? Which was this place? Suddenly the door opened and a short brown man wearing a white lab coat walked in with a clipboard in his hand. She stared at him. He smiled and walked to her, she coiled herself a clear indication she didn't want to talk to the him. Who was this stranger who would just walk to her room and start smiling. But the sight of the lab coat inscribed 'Level 5 Hospital' made her realize he was a doctor. That was when she noticed she had not been alone in the room. There was another man and two women standing beside her bed away from the door.

'We are glad you finally woke up Joyce. We was so worried about you!' Her dad said excitedly, moving closer.
Joyce turned her face to the left and saw her parents and another familiar lady smiling.
"Hey Joyce am Madam Gladys your dean of students. Am glad you have opened your eyes. We will pray for your quick recovery my daughter." The other lady said.
"Doctor how long will she be here?" Pastor Mwanga asked.
"I think I'm a weeks time or less she will be good to be discharged" the doctor replied.

"Thank you so much may God bless you Doctor" Mama Joyce said.
She was happy that her daughter was no longer in danger. Her eyes were sore from crying after hearing what her only daughter had gone through. Just then a man wearing a brown jacket and jeans trouser appeared on the door. He moved towards the bed and he quickly greeted them all.
"Parents of Joyce this is Inspector Stima from CID department in Kisii whom we contacted on your behalf to conduct an investigation into the raping of your daughter" Madam Gladys introduced the man to Joyce's parents.
"But I think the investigations can wait till after she is discharged five days from now" the doctor protested.
"It's okay I just came to check on her. I hope you have her clothes somewhere so that we can use it in a court of law as exhibits." The Inspector said.
"We have that stored and will provide it to you when ask for it even today",
"That would be helpful since my two colleagues are in campus to conduct an investigations about it at her room."

"Now if you will excuse me I would conduct some standard procedure on her since visitation time is over. You can wait for me in the office. In fact inspector please take note with you to the lab over on the left wing to be provided with the exhibits." Doctor said handing the inspector a note he had just drafted. He left immediately as Joyce's parents left the room only to stand in the corridor like others. The doctor gave Joyce some injection to out her to sleep. Since the door was still open he moved to it and locked it before turning the lights off. Mama Joyce thought she saw the lights in that room go off though she was not sure. Her husband was busy on his phone to notice what his wife had just witnessed.

"Did you see what happened in there my husband?" She asked him.
"Whatever happened in there my dear is just a standard procedure as the doctor said." He replied without bothering to look up.
"Is switching off the lights a standard procedure surely?"
"Did he switch off the lights really?"
"You didn't see because you were busy on your phone"
"If he dis that I doubt if he is really a doctor. Let's go check" Pastor said as he led her into the ward. There turned the door nob slowly and could hear some quacking of the bed. Pastor cleared his throat intentionally bring some silence to the room. Just then his wife who was next the door managed to turn on the lights.
"Jesus of Nazareth! What are doing in the name of a standard procedure?" It was Madam Gladys asking. She was just in time to see a glimpse of what had been going on in darkness. Pastor Mwanga was still shock as His wife let out a loud scream "Uuuuuuui!" Soon the door was filled with all manner of curios onlookers.
