Sister-in-Campus 9

C
LINTON CYBER’ in Market Plaza was the place Kalos had gone to print some research reports for some third years. The guys who were do the printing in campus were very busy with revision while others were preoccupied with lots of work. The cyber attendant was good at multitasking since he was printing Kalos’ work, attending to some kids who were playing some games on the computer and still managing to talk to a middle age woman with a relatively slim figure. She was playing with some car keys as she stood on the counter with frustration written all over her face.

“But I already told you that recovering deleted files on your laptop is not possible even with the power of a wizard!” The cyber attendant said.
“I am not convienced yet with your answer and will go to look for help elsewhere” She lamented.
“But I have always helped your laptop problems before” The attendant said. A long silence followed.

“Yes that is true Clinton, but today you have been a disappointment to me” the lady finally said after some time and with that she started leaving. Kalos thought he knew the solution though he was not sure it would work with her case, but he felt the urge to approach her to help.
“I’ll be back shortly” he said to Clinton as he went after the lady keen not to show his intentions. He ran through the stairs and turned outside where he thought he saw her just at the petrol station. A car unlocking sound was heard in the direction on his right. He looked on and saw her get into a Toyota Fortuner a rare car to find with a woman especially in Kisii. Had not rushed there quickly she would have reversed to the main road and left towards Daraja Moja. She almost knocked him as she drove forward to make a last turn into the main road.

“What is it Kijana?” She asked angrily. She seemed to in a bad mood and it was not time to gumble with her feelings.
“Madam I think I can help you with your laptop problem” Kalos said not knowing what she would say.
“Ha ha ha ha… That would be wonderful of you to help a person in need like me. Can we go to my house at Nyanchwa you help me with the problem?” She asked with happiness all over her face.
“But I am still having my work being printed her at Clinton Cyber”, Kalos replied.
“Off course I noticed that. How long will it take?”
“It is a matter of like ten minutes and it will be done”
“In that case I will wait here patiently”
Kalos could not believe but he didn’t have the time to argue so he rushed back to the Cyber. The work was already done and he was to pay the guy and left like he was late for some diplomatic meeting. He almost fell on the stairs running in the process with luggage in his hands. His new found friend was happy to see him back so soon and she stretched her hands to open the co-driver’s door for him to let him in. Kalos got in and continued to pack in his binded books into his laptop bag.

“I am Eunita and work with Old Mutual as the Branch Manager here in Kisii.” She went on to introduce herself. She looked at him showing him it was his turn.
“I am Kalos currently in my second year at the Kisii University doing Computer Science” Kalos too introduced himself. The car was picking speed at Nyanchwa hill and stood slowed down and entered a lavish compound where the gates opened almost immediately like there was a switch. The gate man saluted at them as they entered the compound. As he entered into the large storey house he could not help but admire its sleek design and whatever he his eyes got attention of. A picture of her and a young man almost his size hang on the wall in a tight embrace like two love birds. He got bewildered and before he could say anything she spoke. “That is my son Jim not a third year at Strathmore University.”

“Oh my God you must be kidding me, I was thinking its your boyfriend maybe” Kalos was not conviced at all.
“I got him when I was a second year in the university. Just double the age of a person that age and you will know my age” She went. She placed a glass of juice before him on the small table before him and left for the something else. When she came back she had a macbook which she gladly placed on her laps and turned it on. Kalos was all this trying not to get distracted by her body because she looked very much attractive to him like some beauty queen. She was done opening the macbook with her password and she passé it to him to have a look at it.
“I think we should sit at that study table over there or whatever you call it” Kalos suggested.
“Sure if you will be comfortable to work from there” She nodded in agreement.

Kalos had never touched a macbook before let alone see it with his naked eyes. He only saw them in American movies and online journals. As a programmer he had dreamed of owning one so that he could do his programming stuff with easy and not the old Lenovo laptop that he had that he had to wait for ages for it to compile code. Sometimes it crushed and showed him a blue screen of death. He had been stuck at using Windows 7 32-bit as if switching to Windows 8.1 or 10 was like Baba’s promise of taking Kenyans to Canaan. He took out his old tecno smartphone to google something since he needed to learn his way around. From the way Eunita sat next to him like a fresher it made him more nervous to explain to her he was going to google his way around to know how to solve the problem.

“If you need internet I have some wifi here. Just use the password eunita74, small letters” She said as she saw him frantically trying to do Okoa bundles. He didn’t wait but simply switched to the wifi and started to browse through different google searches. Then he asked her to login into her icloud account so that they could see if they could recover the lost files she claimed to have lost. In a matter of ten minutes all the deleted files were back to the local drive. The joy that was written on her face was overflowing as she stood up and turned around and danced like a lady who had just learned she is not pregnant.
“Please stand up and give me a hug!” she signaled him with her hands. As he hugged her he could not help feeling her soft and warm breasts. She massaged his back in the process and he felt his Johnny no longer at ease. He protested to it with his mind “Not now!”
“Do you know how to dance so that we can dance to some music?” another question followed.

“I don’t madam”, Kalos replied.
“My son is a very good dancer, we do dance together when he is around.”
They disengaged from the embrace when a phone call came through on Kalos’s phone. He was going to pick the phone when it slipped from his hands, hit the floor and became pieces. He felt like crying over the phone when Eunita rushed to him and embraced him again. “Don’t worry I will buy you another one. God sometimes knows hot to get rid of our old items so we can get better ones.”
She quickly bent down and picked the pieces together. Kalos put the pieces together into his bag side pocket.
“Its getting late and I think it is one of the ladies that was waiting for me to take her her work. I should be on my way back to the university Madam.” Kalos said when he was done with putting back the pieces of the phone.
“Okay let me take you to town first to buy a phone then we can go to the university.” Eunita said as she showed him to the door.

* * * * *

Joyce was saddened by the sudden death of Daudi whom she knew was already backslidden the last time she checked. The story behind his death was not good one according to what Petro told her when she called him. Petro was indeed happy to get her call but the fact that she was calling to know about the death of Daudi instead of asking him about himself totally made him feel ignored.

Apparently Daudi had tried to use Petro to fix her father because he felt the pastor was cheating with his wife. He didn’t have the evidence but he hopped to get one through the help of Petro. However when Pastor Mwanga came back from Kisii after Joyce’s rape case he sort of interfered with some of the evidence that Daudi was gathering about him. He intended to present it in church with help of deacons hoping the congregation would believe him and vote him out. Some deacons never like the leadership of the pastor let alone being obedient to him. They wished something bad could happen to him.

Stacia sat there next to her scrolling through her whatsapp chats failing to know why Kalos had not turned up as he promised. She had asked him for some money so she could help her brother back at home to buy some exams items. It was the first time she had asked him for money ever since they became lover birds. She could not imagine he was going to keep off her for asking for money like it was payment for her body. A knock at the door brought the two ladies back to the present world.

“Come in” they replied in unison. Godfrey and Jim entered smiling though for some apparent reason Godfrey’s smile faded when he saw the posture of Joyce. They were here to conduct a group discussion as a strategy towards revision. They needed to revise on some calculus and brainstorm a few concepts. This was the idea of Jim in an attempt to help his friends instead of them going to bother him in the exam room for some aid where questions were tough. Just as they were just getting into the spirit of discussion Joyce asked a sudden question to Jim.
“Jim when did you bath last?” Jim was completely caught off guard with the question. Godfrey broke into lengthy laughter as Jim stammered something like “Yesterday, its been cold and you know it”
“And you Godfrey what is funny here with someone not bathing?” She was on Godfrey now. “ I don’t like combination of your shirt and trouser!”
“Joyce just leave the gentle men alone!” Stacia cut in.
Just then Joyce excused herself to visit the washrooms. She was feeling like vomiting again.

“What is wrong with her surely?” Godfrey asked in frustration.
“I think she is a prospective mother!” Jim said laughing as if it was comical thing to say.
“You mean she is pregnant?” Godfrey asked in disbelief.
“Yeah she is” Jim replied.
“Is that funny Jim?” Godfrey asked.
“Tell him to grow up” Stacia added offending Jim in the process.
“Stacia why don’t you take her for a pregnancy test?” Godfrey suggested to Stacia.
“I have tried to persuade her but she would accept ever since I saw her behaving like that but she is very stubborn.” Stacia commented like a recently windowed woman.
Joyce entered the room and everyone kept quite like water in a jerry can.
“Everyone leave this room at once” She announced.
“B-b-but we were to have a group discussion?” Jim tried to negotiate with her.

“Just give me space and don’t argue with me you Jim” Joyce was tough.
“Jim we better leave because it is better not argue with a pregnant woman” Godfrey said standing up.
“Who said am pregnant you fool?” Joyce retorted angrily like a wounded animal.
“But it is true Joyce you are” Stacia cut in adding insult to injury.
“You whore! How could you tell that to them?” Joyce now shifted to Stacia.
“How dare you call me a whore?”
“You and your Kalos, wait till you miss to rain one day and you will look for it like you misplaced it or you think I don’t know you?”
Jim and Godfrey were left to spectators hearing allegations after allegations and strange things they thought they were not meant to hear. Just then Kalos entered the room.

“Joyce of all people I never expected you hull insults at people like that!” Kalos started as he greeted them except Joyce who refused to stretch her hand. “Were you not some Praise and Worship leader in the CU?”
“CU my foot!” Joyce retorted at him almost like a barking dog.
“Kalos this is not the time for this!” Stacia added.
“Nice to meet you Kalos!” Jim said as he strectched his hand to greet him once again. “Am Jim”
“Nice to meet you too! And you must be Godfrey!” Kalos surprised Godfrey for knowing him.
“How do you know me?” Godfrey couldn’t help asking.
“Stacia here told me about you and also I see you in the CU” Kalos said.
“Kalos wherever you got that feminine perfume” Joyce said twisting her nose in disgust.
“Stacia I think you need to accompany this lady for a pregnancy test as soon as possible.” Kalos said with a lot firmness ignoring her previous statement.
